Wat Phra Keo in Bangkok
Wat Phra Kaew is the most important temple in Thailand. It is located in the very center of Bangkok in the innermost part of the Royal Palace and holds an emerald Buddha statue. This Buddha statue made of jadeite has a rich history. After discovering it in Chiang Rai in 1434, several kings owned the statue. She stayed in Laos for more than 200 years before being returned to Thailand during the capture of Vientiane in 1778. She finally acquired her permanent place in the temple in 1784.
