Correct installation of the protective strip for the keel of the vessel
Polyurethane plastic linings protect the stem and keel of the vessel from damage when mooring to the shore and climbing onto the trailer.
The advantages of such a tape are its ease of installation, it has a long service life and it is not necessary to repair a damaged keel every year.
PROTECTIVE TAPE INSTALLATION STAGES
It is important to remember that the quality of bonding depends on the surface quality of the keel of the vessel.
If a poor-quality gelcoat repair has been completed or antifouling paint has been applied, this will lead to peeling of the protective strip together with the paint and gelcoat layer.
CLEANING
It is necessary to clean the keel of the vessel from dirt, algae and wax (if any), and the protective strip from dust. If the bottom is cleaned well, then gluing will not cause difficulties.
DEGREASING
It is important to degrease the protective strip itself and the place of gluing. This can be done with alcohol or acetone.
APPLICATION OF ADHESIVE
Glue needs to be applied with a thin layer. The main thing is to carefully lubricate everything: the edges of the bottom and redans.
ADHESIVE
Straighten the protective strip before gluing. Put the film in the sun for 10 minutes. If the air temperature is below 16-18 degrees, then lightly heat the film with an industrial hairdryer. All this will make installing a protective film easier.
Bonding start from the bow of the boat. Follow the recommendations of the adhesive manufacturer.
Protect the keel of the vessel with a polyurethane protective film and then you will not have to repair damage every time after use.
